AQA – Curriculum

AQA’s curriculum focusses on 4 key areas of learning listed below:-

  1. Recitation of Qur’an with Tajweed, based on the original al-Qā’ida an-Nūrāniyyah (printed version) with additional guidelines, and following a dedicated multi-tiered series of Tajweed books.
  2. Islamic studies subjects are taught through the Safar Academy Islamic Textbook and Workbook series¹, which follows an age/ability-appropriate and stage-by-stage system of teaching, cumulatively building children’s essential Islamic knowledge base, interconnecting all subjects, as well as providing guidance on living the lessons in daily living. The subjects covered include:
    1. Aqeedah – learning and understanding the Islamic essential tenets of faith.
    2. Fiqh – learning the rules and practices of purity, ablution, tayammum, prayers, zakah, hajj etc
    3. Seerah – key episodes from the life of Prophet Muhammad sallallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam.
    4. Taareekh (History) – lives of the previous prophets and other major events of importance reported in the Qur’an and ahādīth.
    5. Akhlāq wal Adāb – Islamic manners and etiquettes to a moral and rewarding life.
  1. Tahfeedh – memorisation of chapters of the Qur’an, du’ās and ahādīth. The du’ās are taught using a mix of AQA published du’ā sheets and Safar Academy published du’ā books. Th ahādīthh are taught using AQA published 40 ahādīth on good manners and behaviours.
  2. Arabic Language taught through the miftāh al-‘arabiyyah (Gateway to Arabic) series following an age and ability appropriate, stage-by-stage approach, cumulatively building children’s ability in reading, writing, listening and speaking the Arabic language.

Practical lessons have been clearly marked to ensure that different learning modes are utilised during teaching

Schemes of work

each textbook comes with schemes of work and in addition has a workbook with two tiers of assessment, based on Bloom’s Taxonomy of learning objectives.

Clear themes

to ensure gradual and logical progression, textbook lessons have been grouped into themes.

Reinforced learning

central elements, such as Allah-consciousness and manners are constantly revisited throughout the series to ensure broadening of knowledge as well as reinforced learning.

Accompanying workbooks

Workbooks have questions designed to encourage thought, expression and connection with the teaching material.

We believe we have designed a curriculum that is unique to our Maktab. The curriculum is not taught to cover more advanced Islamic classical sciences, however, reasonable depths are generally explored in key areas of study, particularly the contemporary applications and implications, making it relevant to our students everyday lives.
